What humans create with machines
Since the beginning of time, humans have longed to take their future into their own hands. And since then, humans have been designing, building and using machines for this purpose. Humans, machines and progress are thus intrinsically linked. Humans use machines to improve the lives of all on this planet.
It is one of our most important tasks to show you what humans today can do with machines and the progress that will come out of it.
But what are the biggest challenges facing mankind? And what contribution are machines and mechanical engineers already making today to solve them? The Mechanical Engineering Industry Association (VDMA) has been providing the general public with knowledge on mechanical engineering for 125 years.
Now we would like to show you illustrative examples and solutions with these multimedia reports. We are kicking off our anniversary with the three biggest topics: Work, Energy and Food. Throughout the year, we will publish more reports on the major challenges of our time.
Take a look into the future and find out which topics are already being addressed by mechanical engineers today. What will work look like in the future and what roles will robots play in it? How will energy be used tomorrow? How can we ensure that our food will remain safe and edible?
These are the questions which our mechanical engineers are trying to answer – and more: They must find solutions because the future will not wait.
For our member companies and for VDMA, machines are therefore not an end in themselves. They are the means by which we will accomplish progress for the people. The aim is to continually make the world a better place. And this is the task that the nearly 3200 member companies of the VDMA take on every day, as you can see in the many practice examples on this website.
We hope you enjoy reading and learning about our new findings.
